Support For Healthy Recovery
Twelve Steps:
Building A Healthy Lifestyle & Mind
People in twelve step programs, or in aftercare
form chemical dependency treatment, can get
experienced support around building a new and
healthy life.
I will support you in developing and maintaining a
relapse prevention plan, encourage you to keep going
to meetings and keep close to a sponsor, work the
steps in your daily life.
But there's more for building a life in healthy
recovery. Relationships may need to be repaired, or
even left behind. Professional lives may need to be
salvaged. New directions may need to be explored and
accomplished. You own self worth is growing and
needs nurturing.
That's where a therapist, along with a sponsor can
be of help.
Individual, couples or family therapy is an
integral part of rebuilding lives, of yours', and
those who have been impacted by addiction disease.
Remember, a person is never the problem - the
problem is the problem. Addiction often begins with
self medicating to cope with life circumstances or
events that are stressful and overwhelming.
Sometimes it's learned behavior that stems from an
environment you had to endure. I will offer you
support and be your guide on a resurrection journey,
in which you, and anyone else who comes to
counseling with you, will be treated with
unconditional positive regard, yet also with
rigorous honesty.
I have many years experience as therapist in
residential treatment programs; at Walden House, and
also with a juvenile probation residential placement
in Solano County.
Teens and Substance Abuse
The best first intervention for teens who have
substance abuse issues is a structured program that
specializes in chemical dependency treatment. I, or
a family doctor can refer you to such a program.
My work begins at discharge from the program.
Aftercare is a critical component of drug treatment,
and is of the the most neglected part of the
process. It is usually good to begin outpatient
aftercare counseling as soon as the youth completes
the chemical dependency program.
Individual and family therapy is a critical
part of overcoming the effects of substance abuse,
and making healthy changes in the teens environment
to nurture healthy choices and lifestyle.
Grant me the serenity to change what can be changed,
To accept the things that cannot change,
And the wisdom to know the difference!
(The Serenity Prayer, paraphrased from the 12 steps.)
